Bobrek Engineering & Charter Construction, the Engineer of Record for the project, entrusted Sanborn Electric to locate a key but missing man-hole; install fiber optic lines; and wire the truck scale at the facility to ensure durable performance and accurate measurement.

A key challenge was the as-built plans did not include one missing buried manhole, so an efficient solution was needed to locate it before the installation of communication lines could progress. Another challenge was working with frozen ground in winter weather conditions.

Our Solution

Sanborn Solution

Using our company-owned precision location equipment (Radiodetection RD7200 Cable and Pipe Locator) we quickly and efficiently located the manhole cover, which was buried 12 inches below grade in frozen ground, and then excavated the buried manhole. Our team efficiently installed fiber optic communication lines that now serve as the essential communication link between the facility’s gas flare and control house.

Result: Sanborn Electric’s ability to quickly locate the manhole saved the client from investing hours or days of time and labor excavating frozen ground to locate the manhole before the project could continue.

Later that Spring, Sanborn Electric was once again called upon by Bobrek Engineering & Charter Construction to wire the truck scale at the recycling facility. The Sanborn team installed rigid steel conduit and expansion fittings to ensure the scale’s longevity and protect it from physical damage throughout many years of harsh New England weather cycles.
